Inner London

Inner London is a term used mainly for statistical and administrative purposes to describe the central part of the Greater London region, distinct from both the City of London and the wider Greater London area. Greater London refers to the entire metropolitan region, which consists of 32 London boroughs plus the ancient City of London at its core, while the City of London itself is a very small, historic area of just over one square mile that serves as a global financial hub and has its own unique local authority, the City of London Corporation. By contrast, Inner London encompasses 12 of the London boroughs—such as Camden, Islington, Westminster, and Southwark—alongside the City of London, forming the urban core that historically developed first and remains densely populated, highly urbanised, and economically significant. It is often contrasted with Outer London, which refers to the 20 boroughs forming the suburban belt around the capital.
